Well-Man Check
Welcome to our GP Surgery!
At our practice, we believe in preventative medicine and encourage our male patients to take an active role in maintaining their health. One of the ways we support this is by offering a "well-man" check-up.
What is a "well-man" check-up?
A "well-man" check-up is a health screening designed specifically for men. It's an opportunity to identify any potential health concerns before they become serious problems. During a "well-man" check-up, our healthcare team will conduct a range of tests and examinations to assess your overall health and wellbeing.
What does a "well-man" check-up involve?
A "well-man" check-up will typically involve a physical examination and a series of tests. These may include:
- Blood pressure and cholesterol check - High blood pressure and cholesterol levels can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health problems. Our healthcare team will measure your blood pressure and cholesterol levels and provide advice on how to manage them if necessary.
- Prostate cancer screening - Men over 50 are at an increased risk of prostate cancer. Our healthcare team can perform a simple blood test to check for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, which can indicate the presence of cancer.
- Testicular examination - Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15-49. Our healthcare team will conduct a physical examination to check for any abnormalities.
- BMI check - Your body mass index (BMI) is an important indicator of your overall health. Our healthcare team can measure your BMI and provide advice on healthy weight management.
- Diabetes screening - Diabetes can lead to a range of serious health problems if left untreated. Our healthcare team can perform a blood test to check for diabetes.
- Lifestyle advice - Our healthcare team can provide advice on healthy lifestyle choices, such as diet, exercise, and smoking cessation.
Why is a "well-man" check-up important?
A "well-man" check-up is important for a number of reasons. First, it can help to identify any potential health concerns before they become serious problems. Early detection and treatment can often lead to better health outcomes.
Second, a "well-man" check-up can provide an opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about your health. Our healthcare team can provide advice on healthy lifestyle choices and offer support to help you maintain good health.
If you're due for a "well-man" check-up, or if you have any questions about men's health, please don't hesitate to contact our practice. Our healthcare team is here to support you on your journey to better health.
